 Inspired by her seven horses, three cats, two dogs and miniature donkey (many of which are rescues), S.L. Lurz has created the wonderful fictitious world of Sweetwater Farms. But it was one particular pony, Shiloh, who turned her world “right-side-up” and moved her to do more than just write books.
As an animal advocate, Lurz has witnessed the suffering of many animals and has worked for change in her community. It was when she met Shiloh that she knew it was time to take action and work toward a greater solution…a global solution–one that would have to involve our youth.
Using wit and adventure Lurz subtly reveals the Sweetwater series’ underlying theme of respect for all living things. She ultimately aims to impress upon young people that taking care of each other, animals and nature is just what we do and anything else is simply…uncool.
Using profits from the book sales, Lurz is providing financial assistance to non-profit organizations which embrace the Sweetwater message. Her vision includes the establishment of a foundation to fund innovative programs such as Stallion To Gelding Support, a free gelding program Lurz spearheaded in 2009 (visit the Media Room to learn more). |
